Quotes That Should Change the Way You Think
Quote sharing is one of the most popular practices on social networks today. Communities, boards, pages, groups are being created for the sole purpose of sharing inspiring thoughts about life, love, success, entrepreneurship, friendship; you name it!
What is it about quotes, and thoughts, that make them so fascinating? For some people, it’s a way to cope with a situation. Others just look to connect and engage. For many others, it’s mainly inspiration that can relate to daily circumstances and conditions and a form of expression.
For me, they are inspiring words and thoughts full of meaning that can help you see things from another perspective; an invitation to open your mind and learn; a feeling of togetherness between minds.
Since I’m hopelessly, and defenselessly, attracted to thoughts and inspiration, I not only read Chernoff’s article, but I also saved it in my Pocket (literally). I keep many things there, and today, after receiving a weekly notification from Pocket about great articles that I could store, I saw Chernoff’s article again and re-read the 60 quotes.
We are always adapting and making changes thanks to every experience and lesson that we learn, but it is now that I understand the real meaning of Chernoff’s title: “Changed the Way You Think”.
And here is a small compilation of some of these quotes that have REALLY changed the way I think.
Quote Nº 2: “Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together”. – Marilyn Monroe
Being forced to break free from what seemed like a comfortable situation, but that was affecting you personally and professionally, is liberating. Liberating your mind is an excellent trigger for creativity. Liberation encourages you to learn new things, to rethink your life, to understand what is important and also, to meet new people.
Quote Nº 4: “Sometimes you need to distance yourself to see things clearly”. – Unknown
“Distance makes the heart grow fonder” so we start to see things from another perspective. We wake up our independent spirit and as we begin to “see things clearly”, we develop ideas and plans of actions in our heads. We can even forget, forgive, or both, and start over with a sense of self-determination and confidence. Once again, we “learn”.
Quote Nº 18: “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse”. – Jim Rohn
Motivation is key. But we cannot wait for people or life circumstances to motivate us, we have to find it in ourselves. We can do lots of things if we want to. Ideas come into our heads, but it is in our power to put them in motion.
Lack of time, lack of resources, availability, not knowing how, may seem like obstacles but in the end they are just excuses. Find the time, assess your resources, become available and “learn how”.
And I conclude this paragraph with quote Nº 17: “Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, etc…” – H. Jackson Brown Jr.
Quote Nº 30: “You will never become who you want to be if you keep blaming everyone else for who you are now”. – Habeeb Akande
This piece of wisdom totally hit me. I’ve seen this over and over again. While people waste time blaming others, many opportunities to achieve things in life get lost in the way! But I guess sometimes it is tempting to look for excuses (back to Quote Nº 18).
Quote Nº 43: “Be happy. Be yourself. If others don’t like it, then let them be. Happiness is a choice. Life isn’t about pleasing everybody”. – Unknown
Trying to please everybody is an exhausting job. Sure you can be indulgent sometimes, but giving everyone what they want and living your life according to other people’s expectations and likes is unreal. If others won’t do it for you, there is no symbiosis.
One of the things I admire most in people is the ability to be unique because we all are. If only we don’t spend our lives following trends for fear of being unaccepted or mimicking other people’s lives just to look cool…
Quote Nº 56: “If you tell the truth, it becomes a part of your past. If you lie, it becomes a part of your future”. – Unknown
There is no other way to go through life but being honest. It is the only way to be true to yourself, which in the end is what counts. Plus deceiving others will eventually get you to a place of solitude and remorse… even if you don’t want to accept it. Others will always know so it will be only you who will remain oblivious.
I could tell you a story about my life with each and every one of these 60 quotes, but probably you would get bored of reading an endless article on LinkedIn, so why don’t you share your own special quote?
And before saying “until next time”, remember (quote Nº 60) “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it”. – Mary Engelbreit
Until next time!
